ANNUITANT PRIVILEGES AND SERVICES

Policy Number: 2

The services and privileges set forth under this policy apply to all University retirees. The term, "retiree," includes all academic and non-academic personnel who retire from the University except where the context makes a distinction. Unless specified otherwise, these privileges and services are shared by the retiree's spouse, as well as the surviving spouse of a deceased retiree unless remarried.

A permanent identification card for retirees and their spouses shall be provided by the Department of Telecommunications.

An "emeritus" sticker, which provides complimentary parking in staff lots on campus, shall be provided by the University Police Department, upon request.

The appropriate local or out-of-town address and telephone number shall be included in the University staff directory.

Limited duplicating and copying services are available on the same cost and cash basis as those provided for active University personnel.

Retired personnel are authorized to use University letterhead and envelopes or other appropriate departmental letterhead for professional purposes. Supplies and limited stenographic assistance for professional correspondence may be arranged through the retiree's departmental office.

Assistance in keeping abreast of changes in retirement, insurance and similar matters is available through the appropriate University office.

Retired academic and civil service personnel may take course work with waiver of tuition and fees as outlined in the Board of Trustees Regulations.

The same library privileges which are available to all University employees are available to retirees. Their identification card is the authorization required to use the facilities.

Subject to availability and with the consent of the department chair, a retired faculty member may use departmental office and laboratory facilities. Keys may be issued to the retiree in the same manner as for regular staff, with the approval of the department chair.

Admission to University cultural, musical, athletic, theater and other events where admission is charged is available to retirees on the same basis as for regular University employees.

Retirees shall have the same opportunity for use of recreational facilities as active staff.

University Internet accounts will be continued for annuitants who receive such accounts as University employees under the following conditions:

- Annuitants will be responsible for any long distance charges resulting from dialing into the University modem pool.

- Reciprocal arrangements with other universities and Internet providers will not be made for annuitants.

- A representative designated by the annuitants group from their membership will be responsible for answering any inquiries; the representative shall be responsible for providing information in an ombudsperson-like fashion to annuitants who inquire about Internet access service.

- Annuitants may come to campus for additional assistance or may obtain assistance by telephone; home visits will not be provided. Service priority will be given to current students, faculty, and staff.

A permanent file of retirees and their spouses shall be maintained in the computer for information, study, and mailing purposes.
