Proficiency and Competency Testing Dates
When: Exams are scheduled on an individualized basis

Where: Lumpkin Hall 4026

You MUST register and pay exam fee before you will be allowed to take the exam

 

 

School of Business Computer Competency Exam

Students with prior knowledge of computer skills in business computer applications are encouraged to take the School of Business Computer Competency Exam that is offered on several dates each semester. The Exam consists of a 100 point application tasks which may cover topics in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access.


Students who earn a grade of 70% or higher on the Exam will be considered competent in computer business applications and are not required to complete BUS 1950. Students who pass the exam are exempt from BUS 1950 as a program requirement or course prerequisite. Unless the student has elected to have the Exam treated as a proficiency exam, the student does not earn credit for BUS 1950 by successfully completing the Exam.*

Students are eligible to take the Exam if they:

  1. Register to take the Exam (A minimum of three (3) business days prior to the desired exam date)
  2. Pay the non-refundable Exam fee (currently $12.50) at the time of registration.
  • Students who are currently enrolled in BUS 1950 may take the Exam during the first week of the semester. Students who pass the Exam will then be allowed to withdraw from BUS 1950 without penalty.
  • Students are not eligible to take the Exam if they previously enrolled in BUS 1950 and there is an entry (including a grade of D, F, W, WP, WF, or I) on the student's permanent EIU record for the course.
*To earn course credit for BUS 1950, the student must elect to have the Exam treated as a proficiency exam when registering for the Exam and must pay the Eastern Illinois University proficiency exam fee (currently $30 per credit hour 3*$30=$90) when registering for the Exam.

What can I expect the day of the exam?

  • The Exam will be given in Lumpkin Hall
  • You should arrive approximately 15 minutes before the start of the Exam.
  • You must bring your Panther ID card or other photo ID card to the exam.
  • You will be given a user name and password to use during the Exam.  You will complete a short tutorial on how to use the testing software.
