Announcement for Position
Position: Department Chair, full-time position. Subject to funding availability.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities: The Chair of Music has primary responsibility for the coordination, supervision and administration of programs and activities of the department. This includes planning and budgeting; recruiting, mentoring, and evaluating faculty and staff; providing leadership in curricular matters and student recruitment; providing leadership in alumni relations and philanthropy; overseeing program reviews as required by the Illinois Board of Higher Education; teaching and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Terminal degree in a music discipline or 30 hours beyond the Masterís degree in a performance area or equivalent professional experience. Evidence of academic excellence in teaching and research/creative activity that can contribute to the departmentís undergraduate and graduate programs. Ability to work effectively with department faculty across different areas and to represent the department with other campus constituencies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to collaborative and transparent leadership.
Desired Qualifications: Successful experience in academic leadership and philanthropy. Experience with NASM accreditation procedures. Experience in a collective bargaining environment.

The Department: The Department of Music offers a Bachelor of Music in Performance with concentrations in Instrumental, Keyboard, Voice, Composition, and Jazz Studies; a Bachelor of Music in Teacher Certification with concentrations in Instrumental, Voice, and General Music; Master of Arts in Music with concentrations in Conducting, Performance, Jazz Studies, Composition, and Music Education. The department is currently staffed by 26 full-time and 7 adjunct faculty, and has 130+ majors. The Music program is accredited by NASM.
