Good Neighbor Zone Map

Eastern Illinois University is devoted to preparing students for the 21st century and beyond.  Students learn the methods and results of free and rigorous inquiry of the arts, humanities, sciences, and professions guided by a faculty known for its excellence in teaching, research, creative activity, and service. Beyond the beautiful landscape of the physical campus lies a real neighborhood, perhaps very similar to your neighborhood at home.  A surprising variety of people live in our Charleston area - senior citizens, young families with children, single professionals and students. Charleston is a thriving business community providing more than 300 stores and a wide variety of services in the downtown square shopping district and Lincoln Avenue commercial areas.  Many of the most attractive and historic neighborhoods are located close to the downtown and campus.

As a new, independent resident of the community, you will learn about local practices and expectations within your neighborhood. For example, neighbors who are not students may have schedules that are quite different from yours.  Being a good neighbor and responsible citizen is not only a good thing to do, it may make your life easier. Good neighbors look out for one another and make the area in which you live safer. Neighbors may pitch in when you are moving, or they may take care of your pet or your plants when you are away. They may sign for a delivery for you or loan you a tool. Being a good neighbor simply makes sense.
