Department of Health Studies: Not your typical health program!
Our majors/minors prepare for professions in Community Health, Health Administration, School Health, and First Responder Option. Their preparation may take them into the community working for a non-profit organization, medical center, corporation or government. If you have an interest in health, and not just the treatment of disease, then this is one program you need to examine further.

This option is for students that want preparation for such careers as: Health Educator, Health Program Director, Quality Assurance staff, County Public Health Educator, Health Promotion Specialist, Health Counselor, and entry-level Health Administrator.

There is also the choice, with a couple additional courses, to be certified at the middle school level. Join the ranks of teaching professional through careful preparation of your teaching skills capped off with a student teaching experience in the classroom. First Responder Option: This option is designed for two different groups:
Current Emergency Response Professionals: Current professionals in Emergency Response careers who wish to complete a bachelor’s degree. The major is designed to complement the professional preparation coursework they have already completed in order to be licensed in their profession, and to enhance their skills by providing a broader, community health based perspective.
Undergraduates interested in pursuing an Emergency Response profession: Students intending to pursue careers as firefighters, paramedics, or other First Response professions. These students may already be pursuing the coursework necessary for licensure, or may be planning to after they complete their degree at EIU.
