- Since EIU President Bill Perry announced that he will complete his service as president on June 30, 2015, the search for his successor has gotten underway. Finalists are in process of interviewing.
- Robert Holmes Jr., an adjunct physics professor, has designed and built what is believed to be the largest privately owned telescope in the world. This 50-inch scope, in addition to three other smaller scopes, allows him to train students at EIU and others throughout the world in the study of astronomy.
