Catalog Description: |
An introduction to MIS by management level. Special emphasis is given to database analysis, design and development. Other topics include: telecommunications, types of IS, approaches to systems development, and security. |

Prerequisites: |
BUS 1950 with C or better, and MAT 2120G (MAT 2120G may be taken concurrently), or permission of the Associate Chair, School of Business. |

Teaching Method: |
The class will be taught as a combination of lectures, group discussion, exercises, and case studies. |

Grading: |

Examinations |
The exams will cover the
material discussed in class and in the readings. The final examination is
comprehensive, but will emphasize the “new” material presented since the last
exam. The examinations are closed books and closed notes. |

Exercises and Case Studies |
Each student will be responsible for two exercises or case studies. You will utilize the concepts learned throughout the class textbook to answer questions related to the specific case. Each student will have to do the assignment on their own. Tutoring may be available. |
|
ACCESS LABS |
Three fifteen lab assignments on the ACCESS database software will be assigned. These assignments will be basic assignments to insure that the students are knowledgeable in the "mechanics" of the ACCESS software package. Each of the fifteen-point labs may be assigned in one part or more. No late assignments will be accepted. |

ACCESS Project |
An ACCESS project will be assigned. The objective of this assignment is to make sure students have a good practical knowledge of ACCESS features like creating forms, reports, and queries. |

To encourage original and authentic written work, students may be required to submit their written assignments in this course for review to Turnitin.com, or other systems designed to detect plagiarized material, and those assignments will become a searchable document with the Turnitin (or other system’s) database. |

All students are expected to take exams at
the time scheduled.
If, during the week of finals you notify the instructor that you are
unable to take the final due to an excused absence, you will receive an
incomplete in the class and a time will be set up for you to take an exam
after finals week. |

or more individuals submit any work for this class with the same (or
approximately the same) content, the point value assigned to the work will be
