Special Education Faculty Achievements

  • Kathlene Shank, Rebecca Cook, Christy Hooser, and Thomas Sinclair each made individual research/paper presentations on the Fall 2003, 25th Annual Teacher Education Division of Council for Exceptional Children refereed program. 
  • Thomas Sinclair presented on the TASH refereed program Fall 2002 and at the CASE Special Educators Institute February 2003.
  • Kathlene Shank made two featured presentations on the Council for Exceptional Children Program Spring 2003. 
  • Kathlene Shank Chairs the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Subcommittee on Knowledge and Skills, and serves on the CEC Professional Standards and Practices Standing Committee. 
  • Rebecca Cook is Historian for the Illinois Teacher Education Division professional organization and Kathlene Shank is Secretary/Treasurer of this state organization. 
  • Kathlene Shank is Chair of the Illinois Alliance of Special Education Administrators Standing Committee on Certification.
  • Kathlene Shank serves on the Area 9 Special Olympics Games Committee
  • Drs. Shank and Hooser coordinated 650 student volunteers for the Fall 2003 Family Fun Festival and 600 volunteers for Spring 2002 Area 9 Special Olympics. 
  • Thomas Sinclair works with Natural Ties and Sigma Rho Epsilon.
  • Kathlene Shank reviews articles for Teaching Exceptional Children, a national level, refereed journal.
  • Kathlene Shank serves on the Advisory Board of Teaching Exceptional Children.
  • Christy Hooser and Kathlene Shank are Council for Exceptional Children/NCATE program reviewers. 
  • Kathlene Shank serves on the NCATE Board of Examiners.
  • Melissa Jones received an Education is the Key Recipient grant award from the Regional Office of Education, Spring 2003
  • Melissa Jones received the Cumberland Unit #77 Neal Foundation Teacher of the Year, Spring 2003.
  • Christy Hooser was the 2002-2003 Chair of the Council on Teacher Education, and is the  2004-2005 Chair of the College Assessment Committee and the Committee on Unit Assessment.
  • James Basham is the Illinois Teacher Education Division Newsletter Editor and Illinois Teacher Education Division Webmaster.
  • James Basham made two national level presentations:  Society for Information Technology & Teacher Education (SITE):  Albuquerque, NM and the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting:  Chicago, IL.
  • James Basham had a paper on technology published in the Paper Proceedings Society for Information Technology & Teacher Education. 
  • Mark Brown is serving on the Executive Board for Childhood Education International.
