In their final term all students completing teaching certification programs should apply for their certificate. Students not planning to teach upon graduating should still apply for their certificate. History indicates that our graduates frequently change their minds at this point, and if they do not obtain their certificate at time of graduation, they may have to take additional coursework to satisfy new requirements established either by the Illinois Legislature of the Illinois State Certification Board.
Application forms and instructions are distributed by the Student Teaching Coordinators during the semester of Student Teaching. Application forms and instructions are also available in the Office of the Dean of the College of Education and Professional Studies, Buzzard Hall. These forms should be completed in the final term of enrollment in the teacher education program.
To avoid errors, applicants should follow carefully the instruction sheet accompanying the application form. The completed application, and the transcript request which are included, must be returned with the transcript fee to Certification Officer, College of Education and Professional Studies, Eastern Illinois University, 600 Lincoln Avenue, Charleston, IL 61920. NO ADDITIONAL FEES ARE SUBMITTED AT THIS TIME. Applicants should NOT be sent to Springfield or to the Regional Superintendent at this point in the process.
Students should also order official transcripts from all previous colleges
or universities (other than EIU) attended and hold onto these transcripts
until their applications are processed by the College of Education and
Professional Studies. The State needs official transcripts of all
coursework. Processed applications will be returned to the
applicant with a complete EIU transcript and all transcripts must then
be included with the application before final processing at a Regional
Office of Education.
