The application information shown below was used in the 2002-03
academic year scholarship application process. It is no longer valid
but is displayed as an example of the basic requirements for application.
Additional items may be required for the upcoming 2003-04 academic years.
Please watch for new criteria postings in January, 2003.
Please invite any eligible student with a cumulative 3.4 G.P.A. in at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours graded from your school to apply for one of the eight national ASL Education Foundation scholarships of $1000 for classes in 2002-03. The student does not have to be an ASL member but must qualify for membership to be eligible for a scholarship.
The chapter is asked to nominate and forward no more than two applications. This should not be strictly along membership lines.
The chapter is requested to undertake one additional responsibility. That is to verify several items listed on both submitted applications, dealing with G.P.A., hours attempted and earned, awards, and validity of faculty recommendations. This assistance is necessary because of the difficulty in interpretation of documents in the national office. The chapter, with direct access to the student, seems to be in a better position to do this. Click here for the checklist for chapter review of these items which is to be used as a cover sheet for each nominated application. ***Note: In order to speed the application process, the chapter is requested to submit each application in triplicate------excluding the student's official transcript. One transcript per applicant should be submitted in its sealed envelope and copies will be made at the national office.***
Though only two nominations should be sent to this office, the chapter can select those from as large an application pool as desired. Application forms may be copied for all student requests and will also be available on the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society web site at www.eiu.edu/~alsiglam
We appreciate your help. The benefits should be a clearer evaluation and an earlier notification despite an increasing number of applications. Please feel free to contact me regarding any needed information or problems. My phone number is (217) 581-7106. Ask for Dr. Kaye Woodward, Director of Grants.
The chapter should forward all application "packages" by priority mail with a postmark no later than the deadlinedate of Friday, March 29, 2002. Missing or late items will result in disqualification. Notification of awards will be in late July, '02.
