DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARDS
The University may grant one or more distinguished alumnus awards annually. Nominations for the award are made by the Distinguished Alumnus Awards Committee, with final selection made by the President.
Distinguished Alumnus Awards Committee
The Distinguished Alumnus Awards Committee shall consist of three faculty members and two off-campus alumni. Only one of the faculty members can be an alumnus of Eastern. The Director of Alumni Services shall serve as an ex-officio member.
Faculty members shall be selected as follows:
Each year the Director of Alumni Services, shall recommend to the President the names of not more than three faculty members for possible membership on the committee. The President shall appoint one from this group.
Alumni members shall be selected as follows:
Each year the Director of Alumni Services and the President of the Alumni Association shall recommend jointly two alumni for membership on the committee. The President shall appoint one person to the committee.
Members shall be contacted by the President about serving.
Members named to the committee shall be appointed for two-year terms.
The faculty appointee who is in the last year of service on the committee shall serve as chair.
Within limitations of the involvement required to establish and maintain the membership of the committee, the members of the committee shall remain anonymous.
Nominations for the Awards
Persons eligible for nomination must be alumni or former students of the University who have distinguished themselves in academic, literary, business, professional, or public service, and/or service to the University and who, through their accomplishments and service, have brought credit to the University.
Nominations shall be sought from faculty, staff, friends of the University, and alumni each year prior to April 1.
Nominations must be submitted in writing and accompanied by appropriate documentation. Nominations should be submitted to Distinguished Alumnus Awards Committee, c/o Director of Alumni Services.
The Distinguished Alumnus Awards Committee shall make its report and recommendation to the President by May 15.
Presentation of Awards
The Distinguished Alumnus Awards may be made annually at the University's Homecoming celebration or at another appropriate occasion as determined by the President.
