Grand Prairie Butterfly Club

The Grand Prairie Butterfly Club is based in east-central Illinois, U.S.A.  We started in 2003 as a way to give people in our region an organized opportunity to learn more about invertebrates -- animals without backbones.  Although we have “butterfly” in our club name, our scope is actually much broader than just that one animal group.  Depending on the field trip or activity, we may find ourselves identifying butterflies, watching dragonflies pursue rivals at a pond, photographing assassin bugs,  catching  insects that come into black lights at night, or learning about a native prairie restoration.  Our members range in age from pre-school to retirees, and share an interest in insects, plants, conservation,  education, gardening, photography, and the restoration of native plant communities.
