The Samsung American Legion Scholarship

As a delegate to Boys State, you are eligible to apply for a Samsung American Legion Scholarship if you re a directdescendant, i.e. child, grandchild, great grandchild, etc., of a United States wartime veteran.

We will select one national scholarship finalist from among the delegates attending Illinois Boys State. That Illinois finalist (together with a national finalist chosen from the delegates to Illini Girls State, will compete with the 98 other national finalists for one of ten scholarships, each of which is expected to be worth approximately $20,000. All of the finalists receive $1,000.

This year the Samsung American Legion Scholarship application can be found on the Internet. Delegates can complete and print the application from the Internet. The application file may be found at The American Legion Website.

Students must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to open the file. If you do not have access to the Internet, you may contact The Department Headquarters at 309/663-0361, and make a request for an application.

If eligible, complete the application and bring your application with you to personally give to your County Counselor at Boys State by noon on Monday. Applications will not be accepted after that date.

You need not attach proof of veteran status on your application. If you are chosen as the Illinois national finalist, we will assist you in obtaining the necessary form DD-214 (or equivalent proof of veteran status) and attach it to your application before we send it on to the national competition.
