University Employee Classifications

Faculty

These employees hold a faculty rank (e.g., instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, full professor) and work directly with students in classrooms and the library. Generally, these employees are directly involved in the teaching of Eastern's students. They may be hired as full-time or part-time employees on a temporary or on-going basis.

Civil Service

These employees assist the University by providing services that support the education of Eastern's students. These employees, who are classified into employment categories, perform a variety of functions including facilities maintenance, business operations and clerical support. They are subject to the State civil service rules and regulations. They may be hired as full-time or part-time employees on a temporary or on-going basis.

Administrative/Professional

These employees assist the University by providing services that support the education of Eastern's students. They generally occupy managerial and professional positions, are not subject to the State civil service rules and regulations. They may be hired as full-time or part-time employees on a temporary or on-going basis.

Graduate Assistants

These employees are graduate students at Eastern, who complete research, teaching, or administrative work in various university departments in exchange for a tuition waiver and a monthly stipend.

Student

These employees are students at Eastern, who work part-time in various university departments. Their compensation, generally at the minimum wage level, is either paid for by the federal work-study program or by a particular department.
