Head Athletic Trainer

Applications are being requested for Head Athletic Trainer position at Eastern Illinois University. This is a full-time, 12-month position and will oversee a comprehensive Athletic Training program including complete health care for all student-athletes in 21 Division I sports (FCS football). Requirements include, but not limited to, development of overall sports medicine program for the department, including: injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling of student-athletes with the assistance of the Athletic Department and Team Physician(s); position will have sport responsibilities; provide athletic training services for University athletic department, including attendance at team practices and home and away competitions as necessary which will involve work and travel during evening hours, weekends and some holidays as necessary; responsible for the formation and assignment of the Universityís athletic training staff, including hiring , training and supervision of assistant athletic trainers (5 full time), graduate assistant athletic trainers (2 positions) and athletic training students; coordinate medical coverage for 21 intercollegiate athletic teams; facilitate Athletic Training coverage for sport camps and special events; coordinate and schedule physical examinations and all medical referrals for student-athletes; cooperate with Eastern Illinois Insurance Office to ensure accurate injury information is processed in a timely manner; recommend and implement appropriate cost containment strategies specific to athletic injuries and insurance; maintain appropriate medical, insurance and treatment records; work in conjunction with Strength & Conditioning staff to develop appropriate rehabilitation programs for student-athletes; assist with the operations of a drug education program; provide input regarding the administration of substance abuse policy; coordinate test dates and supervise onsite drug testing; manage athletic training budget including inventory and purchase of all supplies.
Qualifications include the following: a masterís degree; NATABOC certification and eligible for Illinois athletic training license and a minimum of five (5) years experience in Intercollegiate Athletics are required. Preference will be given for experience working in Division I athletics and working with a diverse population of athletic teams that involve both menís and womenís sports. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills are required.
