Position Announcement

Dean of the School of Continuing Education

 

The Dean of the School of Continuing Education reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and serves as the Executive Officer for the internal and external affairs of the School.   As an academic unit, the School of Continuing Education is responsible for providing outreach to non-traditional students and students located at a distance from the main campus using multiple delivery methods.  The Dean provides leadership for the Bachelor of General Studies program and is responsible for the overall administration of the School of Continuing Education which includes coordination of academic offerings with the academic deans and department chairs.

 

Description of Duties and Responsibilities

     Supervise, coordinate and administer all aspects of programs and activities associated with the School of Continuing Education, including:

Academic and Professional Development

Bachelor of Arts in General Studies Degree Program

Academy of Lifetime Learning

Summer School;

     Provide leadership in the development and improvement of programming in the continuing education area, with attention to innovative and entrepreneurial opportunities;

     Provide leadership in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to continuing education programs and activities;

     Execute responsible budget planning and management of fiscal and human resources;

     Provide leadership in maintaining quality staff through recruitment, retention and development, with special attention to achieving Integrative Learning/Appreciative Advising, Distance Learning, Affirmative Action, and Articulated Planning goals;

     Provide leadership in the School of Continuing Education development/fundraising activities;

     Forge strong partnerships and collaborative relationships with colleague deans and department chairpersons;

     Provide leadership in the development and preparation of publications and materials for the continuing education area;

     Supervise grants, research, and service goals for the School;

     Maintain active participation in communities in which the University provides programming;

     Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Qualifications
    
Required Qualifications:

     An earned doctorate (or appropriate “terminal” degree) with significant experience as a faculty member in a tenured/tenured-track position and a record of academic achievements commensurate with a faculty appointment in one of the academic units of the University.

     Demonstrated leadership of an academic unit at the level of department chair or higher;

     Administrative and budgetary experience in a higher education setting.

     Outstanding oral and written communication skills.

     A proven commitment to enhancing diversity and equal opportunity for minorities and women.

 

     Preferred Qualifications:

    Leadership experience in a continuing education unit

    Experience providing outreach to non-traditional students and students located at a distance from the main campus using multiple delivery methods.

    Experience developing and implementing academic programming, with attention to innovative and entrepreneurial opportunities

Compensation
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
