The Office of University Housing and Dining Services at Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Illinois,

seeks a dynamic individual for the position of Area Director.

 

The Area Director (AD) is responsible for the management, administration, services, and activities in a residential building/area consisting of 550-900 students. The Area Director assists with the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of residential life staff. Other duties include community development, student development, housing assignments, staff development, student conduct, crisis intervention, programming, hall council advisement, and summer programs.

 

The Area Directorís key focus will be to implement the Panther Success Initiative (PSI) in their learning communities.  PSI fosters student success through the intentional personal and academic development of

each resident. It is expected that our professional staff build meaningful connections with students.

These relationships are created through assisting residents in creating and meeting their goals, connecting

with faculty, embracing integrative learning concepts, and designing educational opportunities which

meet the needs of students living within the residential community.

 

This is a full time, 12 month, live-in professional staff position.  The Area Director must possess outstanding interpersonal and mentoring skills.  The Area Director serves as a member of the Residential Life Management Team and is directly supervised by the Assistant Director for Residential Life or the Associate Director of Housing. 

 

Through effective management, administrative, and programmatic responsibilities, the Area Director

creates a community environment conducive to the academic success and personal growth of students

consistent with the goals and objectives of the Office University Housing & Dining Services.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Masterís degree required with a degree in College Student Affairs, Higher

Education Administration, or College Student Development preferred.  Significant years of live-on, post-masterís experience in Residential Life is required for this position.  In addition, a highly competitive candidate should possess exceptional interpersonal skills with strong supervisory experience including graduate assistant supervision, strong academic support experiences, and outstanding leadership advising skills. 

 

STARTING DATE: July 1, 2013

 

SALARY RANGE: Starting salary of $37,000-$38,000 per year; furnished 2 bedroom apartment and

meal plan; financial support for professional development; benefits package including medical and dental insurance, retirement plan, and tuition waiver for up to six credit hours per semester.
