DEPARTMENT: Center for Academic Support and Assessment

Department:              Academic Advising Center (AAC)


Reporting Line:         Executive Director of Center for Academic Support and Assessment (CASA), who             reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs


Function of Position


This twelve-month position has primary responsibility for the supervision, coordination, and administration of the Academic Advising Center as well as advises students.


Duties and Responsibilities


§  Supervises, coordinates, and administers all aspects of programs and activities associated with AAC.


§  Provides leadership in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to the AAC.


§  Provides leadership in maintaining quality staff through recruitment, retention and development.


§  Supervises unionized professional and civil service clerical personnel.


§  Prepares annual reports and compiles assessment data for the unit.


§  Handles scheduling of off-contract and flexible time for 11-month employees in consultation with staff to ascertain coverage of office.


§  Conducts the evaluation of staff and makes recommendations to the Executive Director of CASA.


§  Makes recommendations to the Executive Director of CASA concerning budgets and assuming supervision for the appropriate use of funds in the AAC.


§  Provides leadership in the development and preparation of publications, materials, and web site for AAC.


§  Coordinates departmental activities and collaboration with other University offices/events.


§  Coordinates activities for new student orientation by Academic Advising and sits on the Orientation Advisory Committee.


§  Provides information concerning general education requirements through workshops, forums, and listservs.


§  Serves on the steering committee for the Campus Advising Network (CAN).


§  Serves as an academic advisor.


§  Provide leadership for recruitment activities such as open houses and special new student programs.


§  Provides service to the campus through membership on various committees.




§  Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling or related field required.


§  At least five years of college-level experience, including advising with at least one year of supervisory experience.


§  Proven leadership ability, including the ability to deal effectively with multiple constituencies and individuals of diverse backgrounds. 


§  Superb interpersonal and communication skills required, including the ability to reach consensus and to problem solve.


§  Knowledge of current issues in academic advising.


§  Strong technology skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office; Banner experience preferred.
