POSITION: Assistant Track & Field Coach
DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics

The Assistant Track & Field Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in the management and administration of all phases of a Division 1 Intercollegiate Track & Field program, within the guidelines, rules and regulations of the University, Conference and the NCAA.

  • Assist the Head Coach to identify, evaluate and recruit student-athletes to Eastern Illinois University.
  • Assist the Head Coach in all areas of team performance including pre-season, post-season training, practice and competition.
  • Work closely with support staff to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of student-athletes.
  • Assist the Head Coach in organizing, planning and conducting safe team training, practice and conditioning activities.
  • Participate in fundraising events, community events, and promotion and marketing opportunities.
  • Candidate will represent the University at national, regional, state and local professional organization events.

Under the Head Coach’s direction, assist in operations including, but not limited to, NCAA paperwork, scheduling, academic monitoring, travel plans, equipment, marketing and budget management. Maintaining knowledge of, and compliance with, specific NCAA, OVC and institutional rules that relate to this position is required. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required/Master’s preferred. Possess (2) or more years of Track & Field coaching and/or competition experience or equivalent. Successful candidate must have extensive knowledge of the sport of Track & Field with concentration in throwing events. Possess ability to recruit and retain quality Track & Field student-athletes. Excellent organization, interpersonal and communication skills are needed. Demonstrated commitment to the academic success of the student-athlete. Ability and willingness to work effectively in a team atmosphere in the athletic department. Strong commitment to the University, OVC and NCAA rules and regulations. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience promoting inclusive excellence is required.
