POSITION: Instructional Designer

Eastern Illinois University (EIU) is seeking applications for the position of Instructional Designer. The Instructional Designer reports to the Director of Learning Innovation and works in consultation with the Director of the Faculty Development and Innovation Center (FDIC) with assigned responsibilities for the FDIC related to the academic mission of Eastern Illinois University, in particular those services provided to faculty associated with instructional design.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provide leadership, training, and consultation to assist faculty in creating and implementing effective learning strategies for all instructional modalities. These learning strategies include those that incorporate technology into curriculum for the purpose of enhancing teaching and learning.

· Develop and conduct training for faculty in the use and best practices of the learning management system and other online learning technologies. Training will be conducted in one-on-one and group settings and through online and face-to-face formats.

· Provide training and consulting for faculty in instructional design principles so that they can better design, develop, and deliver their courses.

· Investigate innovations both in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and in Educational Technology and use this knowledge to update FDIC web materials and related LMS FDIC course so that they function as useful, evolving faculty resources.

· Participate in evaluating and assessing instructional technology effectiveness in the online, hybrid, and face-to-face classroom environments and make recommendations for new and emerging instructional technologies.

· Work closely with Directors of FDIC and of Learning Innovation to plan activities of the Center as outlined above in order to achieve the mission of the FDIC.

Compensation: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.



· Advanced (Master’s) degree in Instructional Design or related field.

  • Experience in instructional design.

· Experience working with faculty in higher education.

· Experience or training in online teaching and learning.

· Experience training others and facilitating workshops.

· Proven skills in a variety of instructional technologies.

· Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience with promoting inclusive excellence is required.


· Experience in current learning management system (D2L Brightspace).

· Teaching experience preferably in higher education.

· Proven ability to perform multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
