"Studying abroad expands your life experience in ways that cannot be imagined or predicted. Stepping into the world of unfamiliar places and people is an explosion of sensations, ready to be interpreted and acted upon. Students in Communication Disorders & Sciences benefit immensely from immersing themselves into the day-to-day experiences of another country. You may or may not be fluent in the language of the country you are visiting. Either way, your initial arrival and subsequent days and weeks will be full of communicative opportunities. Traveling abroad, into another culture and society, gives you first-hand experience at being communicatively disadvantaged, at least for a little while. Learn to listen, learn to interpret, learn to understand unfamiliar gestures and social conventions. Experience the satisfaction of truly communicating with people from all over the world, and come back to Eastern prepared to apply these skills with future clients and patients of your own. The Department of Communication Disorders & Sciences encourages and supports study abroad opportunities for our students. See your advisor to plan ahead for the experience of a lifetime!" |
