Marketing Tips
-
Begin marketing your program at least one year in advance.
- Make sure your program is featured on your department's website and in communications and publications (e.g. bulletins, newsletters, magazines) in addition to the OSA website. Don't have time to hang flyers all over campus? Contact the Office of Study Abroad for assistance.
- Create promotional materials which provide a comprehensive overview of the program. IMPORTANT—Ensure that wording is the same as that posted on the OSA website, particularly in regards to cost, deadlines, etc. The Office of Study Abroadcan help you.
- Come and promote your program at our Study Abroad Fair. This is an excellent way to connect with students specifically about your subject matter, the location, etc. Bring attractive displays for your table also.
- Hold informational meetings, promote them to your target student population (and through the Office of Study Abroad), and keep track of the students who come. Follow up with them and see if they have further questions, etc. If no longer interested, find out why.
- Students from other colleges and universities receive in-state tuition for faculty-led study abroad programs at EIU, so they can also be recruited. Take advantage of any professional listservs you belong to in order to promote your program.
Another good source of marketing information is hosted on Facultyled.com, where EIU may also list your program for external promotion (if attracting students from other colleges and universities is also part of your marketing plan).
