Program Highlights
LDM Venice students are encouraged to enroll in a 6-credit Italian language course complemented by courses in a variety of subjects, including history, art history, film studies, environmental studies, photography, painting, drawing, and cuisine. In all these fields, courses aim to use the extraordinary environment of Venice to stimulate students' skills, intellect and creativity, while at the same time offering them a solid grounding in the disciplines of their choice based on high-quality academic values. The focus on the unique and manifold roles of Venice is made possible by expert local professors who will guide students to discover the city's exceptional resources and opportunities.
The curriculum allows students to explore how this tiny maritime republic became an economic superpower in the Middle Ages; how its breathtaking art and architecture were profoundly shaped by the Greek and Muslim worlds; or how and why the city has been a setting for some of the great works of world cinema. Students may wish to investigate the ecosystem of the Venetian lagoon as a case study in modern environmental challenges; or learn how to cook Venetian delicacies that have their roots in the city's historic role as a cultural crossroads. Venice's great artistic tradition stretches from Renaissance figures such as Bellini, Titian, Tintoretto and Palladio to the daring talents of today's Venice Biennale exhibition. Students may wish to follow in the footsteps of these artists by taking studio art courses that exploit the unforgettable visual atmosphere of the city.

Academic Programs
Lorenzo de Medici (LDM) is one of the largest and leading international schools of Italy, with centers in Florence, Rome, Tuscania, and Venice. LDM is an ideal school for students who want to study Italian language and culture, art, archaeology, music-cinema-theatre, and history. Because of LDM's involvement with internationally-known film and music festivals, as well as contemporary film productions, it is also an excellent choice for students interested in cinema.

Student Life & Housing
Visit LDM's website for more information about Venice, housing, recreation, etc. Istituto Venezia was founded in 1995 as the only school in Venice designed to teach Italian as a second language and, as such, has a very diverse student population. The school is located in Campo Santa Margherita, a historic square in the centre of Venice. It is in close proximity to other institutions within the "university area" and is just ten minutes from bus terminal (Piazzale Roma) and fifteen minutes on foot from the train station.
The square serves as a meeting place for students and residents who go shopping in the beautiful shops of the area or take a break to have a chat and drink in the open-air cafés. The school edifice is an historical building with a wide terrace. All students have free access to internet points, a self-access study room with video facilities (where they can watch films from the video collection of the school), and Wi-Fi Internet connection.
