EIU Program Application (Faculty-led Programs)

Basics for Faculty-led Programs (step by step from application to realization)

Academic Program

The emphasis on cultural diversity and international education is an accepted and often mandatory component of the educational system in the U.S. today. Many employers place significant value on international experience.  This course provides EIU students an opportunity to address this critical cultural need in their educational program. It will provide a “hands-on” personal experience in a culture other than our own. We will focus on four distinct geographical areas seeking to identify the rich cultural differences found in Ireland.

Join us as we go to Gaelic school in the Aran Islands and examine the old Irish cultures in the West from Galway to the Cliffs of Moher and south to the Dingle Peninsula.  Examine how the environment has affected their shorelines. Compare the ancient Curragh and the Galway Hooker (both boats) to the modern fishing fleets.

Join us when we examine County Cork and the Port city of Cobh, the last stop of the Titanic and where many of our ancestors departed Ireland.

Join us when we cross into Northern Ireland and experience the culture varieties that were at war for many years with the South. In the tradition of Irish industry we will tour Bushmill’s Distillery and visit the Giants Causeway.

Join us in Dublin where you will develop an understanding of why the primary restaurant and social centers are the pubs with over 1,000 to choose from. We will tour many of the keystone sights from castles to jails and churches to universities and the Book of Kells.

Join us for this rich trans-Atlantic eye opening Intercultural Experience.  You’ll never be the same.
