When choosing your study abroad program, both you and your parents will look long and hard at the price tag. That's where scholarships come in. The money IS out there; at EIU we offer $100,000 a year in scholarship funds for students who plan to study abroad. Let us help you get there!

  • Do you have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher?
    If yes, you are eligible to apply for a Study Abroad grant.

  • Do you have a FAFSA on file?
    If yes, you are eligible for a financial need award.
    If no, you are eligible for a merit-based award.

Office of Study Abroad Endowed Scholarships

Through the generosity of various donors, our office is able to offer several endowed scholarship opportunities. For more information these awards and how to apply, click here.

  • William V. Weber Scholarship: For any study abroad program. Preference is given to minority students (including GLBT) and first generation college students with financial need. Average award is $200-500.
  • Strandberg Study Abroad in Europe Scholarship: For any semester-long program within the European Union. Preference is given to School of Technology majors. 2.75 GPA. Average award is $400.
  • Walden Short-Term Study Abroad Scholarship: For students planning to study on a summer, short-term faculty-led study abroad program. Applicants must have at least junior status (60 credits) and at least a 3.0 GPA at the time of application. The applicant must not have traveled previously outside of the USA, Mexico, and Canada. Average award is $250-400.

 

Office of Study Abroad Tuition Exchange Waivers

Our office has an exchange agreement with several different institutions overseas. As a result of this relationship, we are able to offer partial tuition wavers to qualified students who plan to study abroad for a semester at one of these schools listed here. This award covers up to 12 credit hours of EIU tuition.

Communication Studies Department

Communication Studies majors who study abroad are eligible to apply for TSA/GIA money from the department.

Forms are available in the Comm Studies lounge, main office or from the central adviser.

CEPS Faculty Led Short-Term Study Abroad Award

Students in the College of Education and Professional Studies with a minimum 2.75 GPA at the time of application.

Frank McCormick Phi Beta Kappa

Africana Studies, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics, English, Foreign Language, Geology, Geography, History, Mathematics, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Pre-Medicine, Psychology, or Sociology/Anthropology majors with a 3.25 GPA. Must have definite plans to study abroad within the next academic year.

Robert and Ann Flick Study Abroad Scholarship

Must be a full time undergraduate student maintaining a GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to English majors traveling to Italy. Financial need is considered.

Study Abroad Scholarship

These scholarships support Eastern Illinois University students majoring in any foreign language. Preference will be given to students who have not studied abroad. Depending on available funding, the Department will also make one Study Abroad Scholarship available to a minor in French, German or Spanish.

Students with a 2.5 GPA or higher intending to study abroad on the "Health & Wellness: An International Perspective" program to Serbia in Summer 2014 are welcome to apply.
