Must I install any software to use Banner via Internet Explorer?
JInitiator is an add-on program that must be installed to use Banner. The first time you attempt to access the Banner Multi-Instance Entry Page an auto-check feature will look for JInitiator on your computer. If JInitiator is not found on your computer, you will receive a dialog box that JInitiator must be installed. Click to continue. After several seconds (longer for wireless computers) a window will appear with a narrow band at the top instructing you to click to install JInitiator.
During my JInitiator installation I received a blank window that does not go away. Why is this?
PC users must have “Administrator” privileges to install JInitiator on their PCs. If you encounter a blank screen while installing JInitiator, call the Help desk and request they give you “Administrator” rights to your computer. (Source: E Carolina U)
I already have JInitiator on my computer to run another application. Why do I have to install it again?
Different versions of JInitiator may be required to run different applications. (Source: E Carolina U)
Will the Banner 7 JInitiator conflict with the JInitiator(s) I already have installed on my computer?
No. You can have multiple versions of JInitiator installed on your computer at one time without experiencing any problems. (Source: E Carolina U)
What version of JInitiator is required?
JInitiator version 18.104.22.168 is used for Banner 7.
If I am the department administrator and the only staff I have is a student, will the student have access to the Banner system?
Each department will determine the access needed for individuals within the department.
I am trying to open the Banner Production program. It doesn't seem to be opening.
If you have left double-clicked on the Production icon correctly, you will be able to see the program icon open down on the task bar.
Sometimes the program itself takes a little while to open. (Source: U of Central OK )
I sign onto Banner Production, but I can't access the screen I need to see.
If you try to go to a Banner screen form and it opens, but does not allow you to call any data up, that is a security problem. You may need to submit another Information Access Form, explaining why you need to access this particular form. (Source: U of Central OK )
I try to sign onto Banner in Production, but I keep getting the dialog box asking for my password. What's wrong?
The user accesses the correct URL but cannot get to the UserID and Password form. This indicates the user is not an administrator of the machine and cannot download JInitiator. Corrective action is to have the administrator sign-on and access the URL or call the Help Desk at 581-4357 and make the user an administrator.
I submitted my Information Access Form four weeks ago and I have not heard anything from ITS.
You may contact Cathy Ashmore, 581-7604 or firstname.lastname@example.org
If you have a requisition that is not approved because it needs a change to the FOAP, will you have to redo the whole requisition?
No, if the requisition is denied rather than approved it will go back into a suspense state. This will allow the requisitioner (or anyone else with access to that FOAP & the requisition forms) to change the accounting and re-submit it for approval.
Can there be multiple approvers in one department?
Yes, Banner allows for a backup at each level. There can be multiple persons at a single dollar amount or at different dollar amounts.
How long will a requisition sit out in an approval queue without being approved?
A requisition will sit in the approval qua until it is approved. Budget will have been checked but it will NOT be encumbered until it is approved. It will be important for approvers to "log-in" to banner regularly to be sure they have reviewed all the documents.
Will a Banner end-user be able to have more than one ID if they work in more than one office?
No, your Banner ID is connected to your personnel account and a "single record." This allows for only one place to change information on any user, student, employee and/or vendor.
Is there a deadline for completing transfers for FY06?
This is the same as in the past.
Will FRS remain up after the Banner Go-Live date?
Yes, FRS will remain up for viewing purposes only as long as the mainframe Plus system is still available. The exact date to "shut off" the Plus system has not been established at this time.
How will we know who is going to need to go to training?
In some cases, departments will need to make decisions regarding who will be responsible for entering PO's, approving PO's, viewing accounts etc. This will dictate the individuals who will need to be trained. Once training schedules have been set up, the campus community will be notified and specific groups will be targeted for training.
The prerequisite for a sign-on and password is to attend training.
