Club Description
The Bowling Club is a Recognized Student Organization (RSO) at Eastern. Open to any full-time student at Eastern, the club participate in the collegiate bowling program and competes against over 70 Universities across the nation. To learn more about the collegiate bowling program visit the Official College Bowling website.
The club also exists to those who just want to bowl and receive some personal instruction. Therefore, two levels of membership are created on the club. A "Tournament Bowler"is one who travels the nation to bowl against the top collegiate bowlers, and a"Club Bowler"is one who participates in the club for the enjoyment of the game either seeking instruction to improve their game or simply seeking social interaction. Here is a more detailed description of the two levels of membership.
TOURNAMENT BOWLER
Being a "Tournament Bowler" means you assume all responsibilites which are associated and designed to improve the clubs potential to successfully compete against the
top bowling programs in the nation. Some examples of responsibilities are:
"Tournament Bowlers" are selected for each tournament on a fair, non bias, method called "Qualifying." "Qualifying" starts three weeks before the tournament date and is the cumulative score of 9 games (3 games for 3 weeks), where the top six pin totals after 9 games signify the bowlers who will
represent Eastern at that particular tournament. "Qualifying" takes place for each tournament we participate in. Our purpose behind this method is to insure that we will be taking the top bowlers at the time of the tournament date. Since the bowling season is a year long season, most bowlers will experience slumps.
CLUB BOWLER
This members activity in the club is limited. The "Club Bowler" is only responsible to pay a practice fee which is generally $30 per semester. The practice fee entitles the member the right to practice twice a week each semester at Charleston Lanes. The member is also
entitled to seek instruction for personal improvement in bowling skills and is also eligible to receive the benefits of various discounts on bowling products that are available for tournament bowlers.
If the bowler feels he or she likes the clubs activities and wants to be more involved by competing in tournaments, the "Club Bowler" can at any time decide to change status to "Tournament Bowler."
Club Activities
The Bowling Club participates in various activities throughout the school year. First, the club practices twice a week at Charleston Lanes. One practice session
is for qualifying and the other is for skill and fundamental improvement. Second, the club participates in about ten tournaments in various cities around the U.S. with other college teams
(See tournament schedule to see where we go). Third, the club conducts various fundraisers throughout the year that are held to raise money to cover the cost to travel to and compete in collegiate tournaments. And Last, the club
engages in social outings that build the unity and friendships that are geniune to a team.
How to Join
Joining the Club is easy. All you have to do is show up and bowl with us. We have meetings every Thursday starting at 9:15p.m. at Charleston Lanes. Everyone is encouraged to come and bowl with the club without making any desicions as to if he or she wants to be "Tournament" or "Club" bowler. After bowling with the club you will be asked to pay at least the practice fee in order to keep practicing with the club.
