MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL ON ACADEMIC AFFAIRS 11-04-99

The November 4, 1999, meeting of the Council on Academic Affairs was held at 2:00 p.m. in the Arcola/Tuscola Room.

Members present: Dr. Addison, Mr. Brinkmeyer, Dr. Cosbey, Mr. Davenport, Dr. T. Mason, Dr. Methven, Dr. Obia, Dr. Owen, Dr. Shonk, Dr. Wohlstein.

Members absent: Dr. Abebe, Dr. Bock, Ms. Riley.

Staff present: Mrs. Chancellor, Ms. Herrington-Perry, Mrs. Rawlings, Academic Affairs.

I. Minutes.

The Minutes of October 28, 1999, were approved as written.

  1. II. Correspondence.
    1. Request for Executive Action from the College of Arts and Humanities, regarding THA 3334, 11/1/99.
    2. Memo from Dr. Jake Emmett, Physical Education, regarding the removal of Fitness for Life from the General Education Requirements, 10-27-99.
    3. Chart from Ms. Herrington-Perry regarding approvals required for curriculum change.
    4. E-mail from Richard Wandling regarding the General Education proposal.
    5. Phone call from Glen Hild regarding the General Education proposal.
    6. E-mail from Frank McCormick regarding the General Education proposal.

Dr. Mason moved and Dr. Methven seconded the motion to add the following items to the agenda. Voting will be later.

      1. Proposed Revised Prerequisites for ACC 3100, 3200, 3300, 4300, 4400, 4500, 4550, 4600, 4750 and 4800.
      2. Proposed Revision of the Business Minor.
      3. New Course Proposal, FIN 2710, Survey of Finance.
      4. Proposed Change of Requirements for the Journalism Major.
      5. Proposed Revision of Pre-Law Studies Minor.
      6. Proposed Course Revision, JOU 3002, Introduction to Copy Editing.

 

IV. Policy for Counting Military Service Credit for Senior Institution Credit, 99-48.

Ms. Kuykendall, College of Sciences, presented the proposal and answered questions of the Council. The motion to approve the proposal passed unanimously.

This action approves the following to become effective immediately:

Requirement No. 12 on page 38 on the 1999-2000 undergraduate catalog.

"All military service credit based on the recommendations in the American Council on Education's Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experience in the Armed Services, and accepted by Eastern Illinois University, is senior institution credit."
