MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL ON ACADEMIC AFFAIRS 2-3-00
The February 3, 2000, meeting of the Council on Academic Affairs was held at 2:00 p.m. in the Arcola/Tuscola Room.
Members present: Dr. Abebe, Dr. Bock, Mr. Brinkmeyer, Dr. Cosbey, Dr. T. Mason,
Dr. Methven, Dr. Obia, Dr. Owen, Dr. Shonk, Dr. Wohlstein.
Member absent: Dr. Addison.

I. Minutes.
The Minutes of January 27, 2000, were approved as published.
III. Agenda item 00-03.
Dr. Methvan moved and Mr. Brinkmeyer seconded the motion to add the following item to
the agenda. Voting will be later.
IV. New Course Proposal, ECN 4689, Theory and Research, 00-01.
Dr. Wohlstein moved and Dr. Shonk seconded the motion to delay this vote until the
Committee for the Assessment of Student Learning (CASL) has presented its Policy on Assessment to CAA. The motion to delay this action passed unanimously.
Discussion included the different possibilities for the deadline and the process of reviewing the different courses. A consensus was reached: the committee will wait until the Chair, Bill Addison and Mary Herrington-Perry will be present to discuss this issue.

EXECUTIVE OFFICER'S REPORT
The following items were approved by Executive Action to become effective immediately:
GEL 4275 -- Delete the following statement from the course description: "Note: A
maximum of three semester hours may be counted as elective credit in a Geology
major or minor."
GEL 3425 -- Delete the phrase "fluvial processes" from the course description; change
the prerequisite to read as follows: "GEL/ESC 1300 C and PHY 1151, or
permission of the instructor."
GEL 4335 -- Change course description to read as follows: "Study of interaction
of man-made contaminants and their geologic environment. Topics include types
and analysis of common contaminants, surface and groundwater quality, risk
analysis, U.S. environmental laws, industrial and municipal waste disposal, and
remediation techniques."
GEG 3855 -- Change prerequisite from "MAT 1271 or 1300 or permission of the
instuctor" to "GEG 3800."
