MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL ON ACADEMIC AFFAIRS 3-30-00

The March 30, 2000 meeting of the Council on Academic Affairs was held at 2:00 p.m. in the Arcola/Tuscola Room.

Members present: Dr. Addison, Mr. Brinkmeyer, Dr. Cosbey, Dr. T. Mason,

Dr. Methven, Ms. McDermott, Dr. Obia, Dr. Owen,

Ms. Rutter, Dr. Shonk, and Dr. Wohlstein.

Members absent: Dr. Abebe and Dr. Bock.

Staff present: Mrs. Chancellor, Academic Affairs.

Staff absent: Ms. Herrington-Perry, Academic Affairs.

Guests Present: J. Lynch, F. Hohengarten, G. Wong, and J. Niziolkiewicz.

I. Minutes.

The Minutes of March 9, 2000 were approved as published.

  1. Correspondence.

1. Letter from F. Hohengarten, regarding Committee on Reinstatement.

2. Letter from F. Hohengarten, regarding Enrollment Management Advisory Committee.

3. Letter from F. Hohengarten, regarding Textbook Rental Advisory Committee.

III. Revision of Art 2010G and 2390G, Arts Omnibus and Introduction to Art, 00-12.

The motion passed unanimously.

This action approves the following to become effective Fall 2000.

ART 2010G and 2390G will be offered on demand.

IV. New Course Proposal, BIO 3101, Molecular and Cell Biology Laboratory, 00-13.

Dr. Wong, Biological Sciences, presented the proposal and answered questions of the Council.

The motion passed unanimously.

This action approves the following to become effective Fall 2001.

BIO 3101, Molecular and Cell Biology Laboratory, (0-3-1) F,S. MOL CELL BIO LAB.

Through experimentation, students will gain an introduction to many of the techniques utilized in the area of molecular and cell biology, including microscopy, electrophoresis, subcellular fractionation, isolation of cellular components, and tissue culture techniques. Prerequisite or Corequisite: Prior completion or concurrent enrollment in Biological Sciences 3100.

V. New Course Proposal, BIO 4751, Advanced Molecular Cell Biology, 00-14.

Dr. Wong, Biological Sciences, presented the proposal and answered questions of the Council.

The motion passed unanimously.

This action approves the following to become effective Spring 2001, pending CGS approval.

BIO 4751, Advanced Molecular Cell Biology, (3-0-3) F. ADV MOL CEL BIO. A study of the molecular basis of intracellular processes, including gene regulation and expression; molecular biosynthesis and transport; cell motility and adhesion; cell cycle regulation; and intracellular signaling, using case studies from current scientific literature. Prerequisites: BIO 3100, 3101, and 3200.
