MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL ON ACADEMIC AFFAIRS 6-29-00
The June 29, 2000 meeting of the Council on Academic Affairs was held at 2:00 p.m. in the Arcola/Tuscola Room.
Members present: Dr. Addison, Dr. Bock, Mr. Brinkmeyer, Dr. Cosbey, Dr. Methven,
Dr. Obia, Dr. Owen, Mr. Robbins, Ms. Rutter, and Dr. Wohlstein.
Members absent: Dr. Abebe, Dr. T. Mason, and Dr. Shonk.
Staff present: Ms. Herrington-Perry and Mrs. Chancellor, Academic Affairs.
Guests Present: J. Moore, W. Higelmire, J. Weber, P. Holmes-Layman, and D. Klingenberg.
I. Minutes.
The Minutes of May 27, 2000 were approved as published.
III. Proposal to Rename the Department of Leisure Studies, 00-24.
Dr. Higelmire, Mr. J. Weber, and Dr. Holmes-Layman, Leisure Studies, presented the proposal and answered questions of the Council. The motion passed unanimously.
This action approves the following to become effective Spring 2001:
The Department of Leisure Studies will be changed to Department of Recreation Administration.
All references to Leisure Studies (LST) courses will be changed to Recreation Administration (REC), effective Spring 2001.
IV. Proposed Revision of LST 1780, 00-25.
Dr. Higelmire, Mr. J. Weber, and Dr. Holmes-Layman, Leisure Studies, presented the proposal and answered questions of the Council. The motion passed unanimously.
This action approves the following to become effective Fall 2001:
REC 1780, Introduction to Leisure Services Agencies. (3-0-3) F. S. A study of the concepts, history and philosophy of leisure, recreation and play. Course also introduces various sectors of leisure services industry and issues related to the delivery of leisure services.
Dr. Higelmire, Mr. J. Weber, and Dr. Holmes-Layman, Leisure Studies, presented the proposal and answered questions of the Council. The motion passed unanimously.
This action approves the following to become effective Fall 2001:
REC 2290, Programming for Leisure Agencies. (3-0-3) F. S. Development of programming aspects including planning, scheduling, personnel identification, publicity, formats and other aspects for a variety of leisure service agencies. Practical application of these programming elements and evaluation implemented by students in a local agency.
VI. Proposed Revision of Recreation Administration Major, 00-27.
Dr. Higelmire, Mr. J. Weber, and Dr. Holmes-Layman, Leisure Studies, presented the proposal and answered questions of the Council. The motion passed unanimously.
This action approves the following to become effective Fall 2001:
Recreation Administration 1320, 1780, 2250, 2290, 3550 or 3551, 3600, 3910,
4274, 4275 (6 sem. hrs.) 4740, 4830, 4850 32 35 sem. hrs.
One of Administrative Information Systems 1900, Business 1950,
Or Leisure Studies 3910 3 sem. hrs.

EXECUTIVE OFFICER'S REPORT
The following items were approved by Executive Action to become effective immediately:
INT 2064 - Materials Processing (2-4-4) change in the title and credit hours to INT 2064 - Manufacturing Processes (2-2-3).
BIO 3300 - Change prerequisite from "BIO 1100, 1200G and 1300G or equivalent" to BIO 1100".
HIS/ESC 3990G. Medieval Archaeology, Honors (Arr-Arr-1 to 4). An introduction to archaeology as a crossroads, discipline, integrating a humanistic inquiry into history with the scientific methodologies which help evaluate the vestiges of past material culture. It will be taught only within the Semester Abroad program and emphasize the cultural heritage in the countries concerns. May be repeated. Prerequisite: Students enrolled for credit must be admitted to the Honors Program and must enroll for 4 semester hours. Student auditors must have permission of the Director of the Honors Program and may enroll for 1 to 4 semester hours.
