MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL ON ACADEMIC AFFAIRS 7-26-00

The July 26, 2000 meeting of the Council on Academic Affairs was held at 2:00 p.m. in the Schahrer Room.

Members present: Dr. Addison, Mr. Brinkmeyer, Dr. Cosbey, Dr. T. Mason,

Dr. Methven, Dr. Owen, Mr. Robbins, and Dr. Wohlstein.

Members absent: Dr. Abebe, Dr. Bock, Dr. Obia, Ms. Rutter, and Dr. Shonk.

Staff present: Mrs. Chancellor, Academic Affairs.

Guest present: J. Niziolkiewicz.

I. Minutes.

The Minutes of June 29, 2000 were approved as published.

  1. Correspondence.

    1. Academic Waiver Report from the College of Sciences for June 2000.
    2. Academic Waiver Report from the Lumpkin College of Business and Applied Sciences for June 2000.
    3. Academic Waiver Report from the College of Education and Professional Studies for June 2000.
    4. Academic Waiver Report from the College of Arts and Humanities for June 2000.
    5. Dr. Addison reported that he looked into the council's question regarding CAH-00-958. He stated that the waiver substituted a civics course taken at Olney Community College.

III. Resolution.

Whereas: Bill Addison has served as the Chair of the Council on Academic Affairs for two consecutive years.

Whereas: During those years the Council on Academic Affairs revised the General Education program at Eastern Illinois University.

Whereas: Bill Addison led the CAA and the university community through the process of revising General Education with sensitivity and courage.

Whereas: Bill Addison's consultative leadership style promoted a sense of community on the Council.

Therefore Be It Resolved: that Bill Addison be commended by the CAA for his distinguished leadership.

IV. Pending Business.

Dr. Addison presented Dr. Ron Wohlstein, the new Chair, with the "traditional" CAA box. He presented Dr. Tim Mason, whose term has expired, with a plaque of appreciation. Dr. Addison thanked Kathy Chancellor for her service as recording secretary.
