MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL ON ACADEMIC AFFAIRS 8-26-99

The August 26, 1999, meeting of the Council on Academic Affairs was held at 2:00 p.m. in the Arcola/Tuscola Room.

Members present: Dr. Abebe, Dr. Addison, Dr. Bock, Mr. Brinkmeyer, Dr. Cosbey, Dr. T. Mason, Dr. Methven, Dr. Obia, Dr. Owen, Ms. Riley, Dr. Shonk, Dr. Wohlstein.

Members absent: One student member.

Staff present: Ms. Herrington-Perry, Mrs. Rawlings, Academic Affairs.

Guests Present: Ms. F. Lewis, Ms. M. McMahon, Ms. M. Schroeder, Dr. Prater, Ms. S. Harvey, Mr. M. May, Dr. M. Brown, Dr. Aylesworth.

I. Minutes.

The Minutes of July 8, 1999, were approved as published.

II. Correspondence.

    1. Email from Dr. Lasky, Honors Program, requesting that he be added to the agenda of the first or second CAA meeting of the fall semester to discuss the current status of the Honors Programs, 8/5/99.
    2. Academic Waiver Report from the Lumpkin College of Business and Applied Sciences for July 1999.
    3. Academic Waiver Report from the Lumpkin College of Business and Applied Sciences for June 1999.
    4. Academic Waiver Report from the College of Education and Professional Studies for June 1999.
    5. Academic Waiver Report from the College of Education and Professional Studies for July 1999.
    6. Academic Waiver Report from the College of Sciences for July 1999.
    7. Academic Waiver Report for the College of Arts and Humanities for July 1999.
    8. Email from Sally Bock reminding the Council that new courses must be approved by September 16, 1999 to be in the Spring 2000 printed schedule, 7/22/99.
    9. Memo from Dean Hohengarten regarding the following appointments, 8/12/99:

      1. Dr. Laurent Gosselin to the Reinstatement Committee.
      2. Dr. Frank McCormick to the Textbook Rental Advisory Committee.
      3. Dr. Tim Mason to the Enrollment Management Committee.

Dr. Wohlstein moved and Dr. Mason seconded the motion to approve the appointments. The motion passed unanimously.

    1. Memo from Dr. Mahmood Butt regarding the designation of ASEP courses as writing intensive, 6/23/99.

 

  1. Review of General Education, 98-59.

Dr. Wohlstein informed the Council that he and Dr. Mary Anne Hanner will bring their subcommittee report to the CAA next week.
