MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL ON ACADEMIC AFFAIRS 9-21-00
The September 21, 2000 meeting of the Council on Academic Affairs was held at 2:00 p.m. in the Arcola/Tuscola Room.

This year's fall lecture will be held in Coleman Auditorium on 9-28-00 at 7:30 p.m. The topic of the lecture by Dr. Annemarie Weyl Carr will be "Women, Art, and Authorship in the Middle Ages: The Dark is Light Enough."
III. Agenda item 98-59.
Dr. Bock, Chair of the Subcommittee on General Education, presented the report and answered questions of the Council and guests. Dr. Bock explained to the Council the parliamentary procedures for handling the proposals.
On October 5, 2000, the Council will discuss the General Education Subcommittee recommendations for the Humanities and Fine Arts, Language, Mathematics, and the Scientific Awareness segments. Then, on October 12, 2000, the Council will discuss the recommendations for the Social and Behavioral Sciences segments.
The Council will vote on those recommendations October 12, 2000. If the question is divided, additional motions will be published in the minutes and those will be voted on during the October 19, 2000 meeting.
The Council discussed the issue of General Education changes with respect to the spring schedule (to be published next week). The Council recommended that any courses currently listed in the general education program (Undergraduate Catalog 2000 - 2001) can be offered Spring Semester 2001. Any new courses being proposed for inclusion in the General Education Program should not be included in the scheduling of the spring course offerings until the Council votes on those proposals
