This website was created for program reviewers of the Council for Exceptional Children. This is an all electronic "paperless" submission for NCATE program review of Eastern Illinois University's Special Education Program. If you have questions or would like additional information please contact Kathlene Shank, Ph.D. via email at cfkss@eiu.edu or by phone at (217) 581-5315. We have attempted to make this site easy to use for the reviewer. Please read the rest of this page for helpful tips that we hope will make the reviewer's job a little easier. This website REQUIRES the use of Adobe Acrobat Reader (Version 4). Many of the documents on this site are in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). Older versions of Acrobat Reader may not display documents correctly. This site was developed using Microsoft FrontPage 98 and verified with Netscape Communicator Browser Version 4.61. Helpful Tips We recommend the reviewer
bookmark the homepage http://www.eiu.edu/~eiucec/
with their Clicking on the EIU icon
Many of the longer documents have Acrobat Bookmarks to assist the reviewer in quickly navigating the material. (Note: Acrobat Bookmarks are different than your Browser's Bookmarks.) The reviewer should be familiar with the Adobe Acrobat Reader Command Bar to assist them in navigating documents. Below is an image of the Adobe Acrobat Reader (Version 4) Command Bar.
To view Acrobat Bookmarks
click on the Navigation Button on the Command Bar The Student Teaching Handbook is an example of a document with Acrobat Bookmarks. (You must click on the Navigation Button to display Acrobat Bookmarks.) Acrobat Bookmarks can be very helpful to the reviewer to quickly jump to the appropriate section instead of having to scroll through many pages of text. All Course Syllabi also have Acrobat Bookmarks to aide the reviewer. The figure below shows an example of the Acrobat Bookmarks (on left side of screenshot) used in one of the Course Syllabi. Clicking on the Course Outline Bookmark will take the reviewer directly to the Course Outline section instead of having to scroll through multiple pages to find the outline section. We highly recommend the reviewer take advantage of Acrobat Bookmarks when they are available in longer documents.
The reviewer may also want to
become familiar with the page size buttons on the Command Bar When finished viewing a document with Adobe Acrobat Reader click on the BACK button of your browser to return the previous page. We have also provided links within documents to assist the reviewer by quickly linking to supporting material where appropriate. The reviewer may click on the links to be taken to the supporting material. MATRICES The reviewer may also want to open two browser sessions. One session can be used for referencing related material and the other session as an "anchor" point. An example might be displaying the Common Core Matrix in one browser session and a course syllabus in the other browser session (remember to use Acrobat Bookmarks to quickly jump to the appropriate section in the course syllabi). The reviewer could then "flip" between the sessions to easily cross-reference material from the Common Core Matrix. To print a document please use the Adobe Command Bar Printer Icon. Unpredictable results may occur if you use the browsers print icon. We recommend using Adobe Acrobat Reader Version 4, older versions may not display documents correctly. For more information about Adobe Acrobat Reader please consult the Adobe Acrobat Reader documentation. Please contact your local technical support if you need assistance in obtaining the Adobe Acrobat Reader. We have provided links to the Adobe website as a courtesy. Click on the Adobe icon for
instructions on obtaining the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. For comments, suggestions, or improvements for this site please contact csgtg@eiu.edu.
