MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL ON TEACHER EDUCATION

January 13, 1998

The Council on Teacher Education met at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 1998, in the Arcola/Tuscola Room of the MLK Union.

 Members present: Dr. Barnhart, Dr. Cosbey, Dr. L. Greathouse, Dr. N. Greathouse, Dr. Henn, Dean Hitch, Ms. Hooser, Dr. Hussey, Dr. Poulter.

Members absent: Dr. Campanis, Dr. McGaughey, Dr. Schroeder

Staff present: Ms. Dolson, Academic Affairs.

 

I. Introductions.

Chair Greathouse asked the Council members to introduce themselves. Dr. Lillian Greathouse will replace Dr. Roger Luft during the Spring semester. Also, Chair Greathouse noted that three new student representatives will be joining the Council this semester.

II. Minutes.

Dr. Poulter moved and Ms. Hooser seconded the motion to approve the Minutes of the December 9, 1997, meeting as published. Motion passed unanimously.

III. Communications.

1. Memo from Dean Ivarie to the Faculty Senate requesting Dr. Lillian Greathouse be the alternate for Dr. Roger Luft for Spring 1998.

2. Approval from Dr. Terry Weidner for Dr. Hussey to replace Dr. Henn on the ATAC committee.

3. Dr. N. Greathouse reported on the progress of the search committee for Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Campus interviews will be scheduled during February.

 

IV. 98-1 Student Appeals.

SA01, 02, 03: Ms. Hooser moved and Dr. Cosbey seconded the motion to put these items on the agenda.

 

Dr. Poulter moved and Dr. Barnhart seconded the motion to suspend the rules and act on these items.

 

V. 97-9 Student Appeals.

SA 21: Dr. Barnhart moved and Ms. Hooser seconded the motion to support the subcommittee in denying the appeal to allow the student to waive the requirements for approval to student teach. The motion passed unanimously.

 

VI. 98-1 Student Appeals.

SA01: Dr. Poulter moved and Ms. Hooser seconded the motion to support the subcommittee in granting the appeal to allow the student to waive the requirements for approval to student teach. The motion passed unanimously.

 

SA02: Dr. Hussey moved and Dr. Cosbey seconded the motion to support the subcommittee in denying the appeal to allow the student to waive the requirements for approval to student teach. The motion passed unanimously.

 

SA03: Dr. L. Greathouse moved and Dr. Barnhart seconded the motion to support the subcommittee in denying the appeal to allow the student to waive the requirements for approval to student teach. The motion passed unanimously.

 

VII. The Council would like to thank the members of the appeals subcommittee for all their hard work.
