MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL ON TEACHER EDUCATION

January 27, 1998

 

The Council on Teacher Education met at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 1998, in the Arcola/Tuscola Room of the MLK Union.

Members present: Dr. Campanis, Dr. Cosbey, Dr. L. Greathouse, Dr. N. Greathouse, Dr. Henn, Dean Hitch, Ms. Hooser, Dr. Hussey, Dr. McGaughey, Dr. Schroeder, Ms. Traub.

Members absent: Dr. Barnhart, Dr. Poulter.

Staff present: Ms. Dolson, Dr. Evans, Ms. Herrington-Perry, Academic Affairs.

Guests present: Ms. D. Barker, Dr. B. Reid.

I. Minutes.

Dr. L. Greathouse moved and Dr. Schroeder seconded the motion to approve the Minutes of the January 13, 1998, meeting as published. Motion passed unanimously.

II. Communications.

1. Chair Greathouse welcomed Lisa Traub, a student representative from the Early Childhood, Elementary and Middle Level Education area. Two other student representatives will be appointed to the Council this semester.

2. Dr. N. Greathouse reported that the search committee for Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will be bringing candidates to campus for interviews beginning the week of February 2. Watch your mail for information on the candidates.

3. Chair Greathouse reported that she has been working with James Tidwell from the Faculty Senate on the election procedures for the Council. She has forwarded a list of positions that need to be filled for next year.

III. 98-1 Student Appeals.

SA04: Ms. Hooser moved and Dr. McGaughey seconded the motion to put this item on the agenda. Voting will be later.

IV. Executive Director’s Report.

Dean Hitch announced that several meetings regarding the Selection Process have been scheduled. The first will be held in the Greenup Room on January 29, 1998, from 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. These meetings will be advertised through several different methods of communication. She encouraged the Council members to attend one of these meetings and to bring their colleagues along.

  1. Dr. Brian Reid, Director of School/University Partnerships, presented a draft of the Criteria and Activities for Participating Schools & Departments. He encouraged the Council to give him feedback on this document.
