MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL ON TEACHER EDUCATION
February 10, 1998
The Council on Teacher Education met at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 1998, in the Arcola/Tuscola Room of the MLK Union.
Members present: Dr. Campanis, Mr. Consolino, Dr. Cosbey, Dr. L. Greathouse, Dr. N. Greathouse, Dr. Henn, Dean Hitch, Ms. Hooser, Dr. Hussey, Dr. McGaughey, Ms. Traub.
Members absent: Dr. Barnhart, Dr. Poulter, Dr. Schroeder.
Staff present: Ms. Dolson, Ms. Herrington-Perry, Academic Affairs.
Guests present: Mr. D. Dawson.
I. Introduction.
Chair N. Greathouse welcomed the new student member, John Consolino.
II. Minutes.
Dr. McGaughey moved and Ms. Hooser seconded the motion to approve the Minutes of the January 27, 1998, meeting as published. The motion passed unanimously.
III. Communications.
Chair N. Greathouse mentioned she was pleased that some of the Council members had attended the interviews for Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. She announced the remaining schedule and urged everyone to attend the interviews.
IV. 98-1 Student Appeals.
SA04: Dr. L. Greathouse moved and Dr. Campanis seconded the motion to support the subcommittee’s recommendation to deny the appeal to allow the student to waive the requirements for approval to student teach. The motion to deny the appeal passed with the following vote:
Yes: Dr. Campanis, Mr. Consolino, Dr. Cosbey, Dr. L. Greathouse, Dr. N. Greathouse,
Dr. Henn, Ms. Hooser, Dr. McGaughey, Ms. Traub.
Abstain: Dr. Hussey.
V. 98-2 Catalog Clarification.
Ms. Hooser moved and Dr. Campanis seconded the motion to add this item to the agenda. Voting will be later.
VI. Executive Director’s Report.
1. Dean Hitch distributed a newly revised "green sheet" and a description of the Selection Process for Undergraduate Teacher Education Programs. These items will be readily available to all the students involved in teacher education. Also articles will be run in the Daily Eastern News informing students of the new procedures.
2. Dean Hitch gave an update of House Bill 452. This Bill contains new certification changes that go into effect this summer. She will keep the council updated as she receives new information.
