MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL ON TEACHER EDUCATION

October 13, 1998

The Council on Teacher Education met at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 1998, in the Arcola/Tuscola Room of the MLK Union.

Members present: Dr. Campanis, Dr. Cosbey, Dr. Edwards, Dean Hitch, Ms. Hooser, Dr. Hussey, Ms. Lehman, Dr. Luft, Dr. McGaughey, Dr. Olsen, Dr. Sylvia, Ms. Traub, Dr. D. Wolf.

Members absent: Mr. Consolino, Dr. Poulter.

Staff present: Ms. Rawlings, Academic Affairs.

Guests present: Dr. M. Heller, Dr. C. McCormick, Dr. B. Reid.

  1. Minutes.

    2. The Minutes of September 22, 1998, were approved as published.

  2. Communications:
    1. Memo (9-22-98) from Dr. James Tidwell confirming the appointment of Deborah Wolf to replace Sandra Schroeder.
    2. CAA Minutes from 9/24/98 and 10/1/98.
    1. CGS Minutes from 9/15/98.
    2. Faculty Senate Minutes from 9/15/98, 9/22/98, 9/29/98.
    3. COS Curriculum Committee Minutes.
    4. CEPS Curriculum Committee Minutes.
    5. Email from Chair McGaughey requesting the Council discuss semester hours of student teaching and tuition per credit hour. The Council discussed this item. No action was deemed necessary at this time.

III. Dr. Morton Heller and Dr. Christine McCormick, Psychology, informed the Council that the Department of Psychology has deleted the Teacher Certification Option in the Psychology Major and the Minor in Psychology for Teacher Certification, effective Spring 1999.
