MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL ON TEACHER EDUCATION February 23, 1999

The Council on Teacher Education met at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 1999 in the Arcola/Tuscola Room of the MLK Union.

Members present: Dr. Campanis, Dr. Cosbey, Dr. Edwards, Dean Hitch, Ms. Hooser, Dr. Hussey, Ms. Lehman, Dr. Luft, Dr. McGaughey, Dr. Olsen, Dr. Poulter, Dr. Sylvia, Ms. Traub, Dr. D. Wolf.

Staff present: Ms. Dolson, Academic Affairs.

Guests present: Dr. B. Reid.

I. Minutes.

The Minutes of February 9, 1999, were approved as published.

II. Communications:

    1. CAA Minutes from 2/4/99 and 2/11/99.
    2. CGS Minutes from 2/2/99.
    3. COS Curriculum Committee Minutes from 1/26/99 and 2/9/99.
    4. Faculty Senate Minutes from 2/8/99.
    5. Dr. Poulter requested that another member be appointed to serve on the Enrollment Management Advisory Committee. She has been unable to attend due to class conflicts. Ms. Hooser will serve for Spring semester.
    6. The Council is still in need of a student representative from special education.
    7. Dr. McGaughey met recently with other science teachers regarding the content standards for the biology area. A draft will be sent to ISBE with their recommendations/concerns.

III. 99-4 Student Appeals (SA1).

Dr. Poulter moved and Dr. Campanis seconded the motion to add this item to the agenda. Voting and discussion will be later.

IV. Executive Director's Report:

    1. Dean Hitch made available a hard copy of the content standards for Council members.
    2. The Illinois State Board of Education will conduct a public forum regarding the content standards on March 8 from 3-7 p.m. in the Charleston/Mattoon Room of the Union.
