Minutes of the Council on Teacher Education – January 25, 2000

The Council on Teacher Education met at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2000, in the Arcola-Tuscola Room of the MLK University Union.

Members present: Dr. K. Bower, Dr. Campanis, Dr. Edwards, Dr. L. Greathouse, Dean Hitch, Dr. Hooser, Dr. Hussey, Ms. Karwoski, Dr. Olsen, Dr. Poulter, Ms. Traub, Dr. Sylvia, Dr. Wolf

Staff present: Dr. D. Bower and Ms. B. Wilson – CEPS; K. Chancellor and M. Herrington-Perry from the VPAA's Office.

    2. The Minutes of November 19, 1999, were approved.

  2. Announcements
    1. The Spring 2000 University Admission to Teacher Education Meeting dates were announced.

      Tuesday, March 21 1:00-1:50 p.m.

      Saturday, April 15 1:00-1:50 p.m.

      Monday, April 24 6:00-6:50 p.m.

      All meetings will be held in the Buzzard Hall Auditorium, Room 1501.

    2. The Chairs and Teacher Educators Discussion Group Meeting dates were announced.

Topic: Professional Education Sequence for secondary education students and taking courses out of sequence.
  1. 99-17 Post-Baccalaureate Process for Calculating and Using GPAs for Selection

    2. Dr. Audrey Edwards and Dr. Lillian Greathouse presented this proposal and the rationale behind the need for this proposal. Following extensive discussion, it was agreed that further input is needed. The proposal will be modified for clarification and then distributed to the campus community. A campus meeting/hearing will be held to receive input.

  2. Executive Director’s Report
    1. Dean Hitch announced that a Forum on Teacher Quality will be held on March 2, 2000, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Location to be announced later.
    2. Dean Hitch announced that a Design of Professional Educators in-service will be held the morning of March 3, 2000. Specific time and location to be announced later.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 3:25 p.m.
