  1. Minutes
  2. The Minutes of February 22, 2000 were approved.

  3. Informational Items
    1. The Public Forum on the proposal relative to the post baccalaureate process for calculating and using GPAs for selection will be held immediately following the meeting.
    2. SED 3330 Course Revision

Dr. Greenlaw presented the SED 3330 course revision to the Council as an informational item. COTE does not vote on the proposal; it must only be approved by CAA. The primary changes proposed for the course are (1) adding a lab component making the course 3-2-3; (2) increasing the field experience from 15 hours to 30 hours; and (3) requiring concurrent enrollment with EDP 3325 in a block format. EDP 3325 is also being revised and will be presented at a later date. Together the two courses will require 60 hours of field experiences. The revision would be implemented in Fall 2001. The change is necessary to ensure that our secondary education teacher certification students are provided sequential, supervised, and evaluated field experiences. The change will result in our secondary education teacher certification students being better prepared for Student Teaching and subsequent employment and will bring us into alignment with the requirements of NCATE relative to our secondary education programs. Dr. Greathouse asked whether the impact on the scheduling of courses outside the College of Education and Professional Studies had been considered. Dr. Butt informed the Council that a meeting of the Chairs and Teacher Educators Discussion Group is being scheduled to address these issues.

  1. Executive Director’s Report
    1. Dean Hitch announced that a Forum on Teacher Quality will be held on March 29, 2000 at 3 p.m. in the Playroom of the Fine Arts Building.
    2. Dr. Bower will be contacting the members of the Teacher Education Selection Advisory Committee to schedule a meeting to discuss the current quality score requirement and make a recommendation for 2000-2001. This recommendation will then be brought back to the Council in April.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:25 p.m.

Minutes submitted by Doug Bower, College of Education and Professional Studies.
