Guests present: M. Greenlaw, M. Butt, R. Murray, R. Luft, R. Roberts, and B. Wilson.
The Minutes of February 22, 2000 were approved.
Dr. Greenlaw presented the SED 3330 course revision to the Council as an informational item. COTE does not vote on the proposal; it must only be approved by CAA. The primary changes proposed for the course are (1) adding a lab component making the course 3-2-3; (2) increasing the field experience from 15 hours to 30 hours; and (3) requiring concurrent enrollment with EDP 3325 in a block format. EDP 3325 is also being revised and will be presented at a later date. Together the two courses will require 60 hours of field experiences. The revision would be implemented in Fall 2001. The change is necessary to ensure that our secondary education teacher certification students are provided sequential, supervised, and evaluated field experiences. The change will result in our secondary education teacher certification students being better prepared for Student Teaching and subsequent employment and will bring us into alignment with the requirements of NCATE relative to our secondary education programs. Dr. Greathouse asked whether the impact on the scheduling of courses outside the College of Education and Professional Studies had been considered. Dr. Butt informed the Council that a meeting of the Chairs and Teacher Educators Discussion Group is being scheduled to address these issues.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:25 p.m.
