How Can I Become an EIU Pink Panther Dance Team Member?
Any current, incoming, or transfer student with dance experience and interested in becoming part of the EIU Pink Panther Dance Team Tradition must audition. This year the team will begin competing at regional and national UDA competitions.
FOR SPRING 2012: An Informational meeting will be held on a Saturday, March 31, 2012, Student Rec. Center Aerobic Room at 10am.
UDITIONS for the new 2012-2013 EIU Pink Panther Team
DATE: SATURDAY, APRIL 14, 2012
TIME: Registration 8:00am; Begin @ 9am; You must have all forms, associated materials, and $25 fee ready at registration.
LOCATION: Student Recreation Center
EIU student, Incoming Freshmen, or Transfer students enrolled with 12 or more academic hours AND a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or higher from
either EIU, a
transfer college, or
high school. Incoming Freshmen or Transfer students are welcomed to audition and need to show proof of admittance to EIU. Scholarships: Once selected for the team, team members may qualify and then submit an application to the Kinesiology and Sports Studies Chair for the Sue Nichols OBrien Scholarship.
How Important Is Appearance?
Appearance will be considered at all times during the audition process. It is very important you remember you are auditioning for an extremely high profile position representing Eastern Illinois University and the Athletic Department. We are looking for dancers who represent the All-American collegiate ambassador who is energetic, talented, spirited with strong academic goals, positive work ethic, respect for self and others, developed time management skills, and dedicated to represent our team, Atlhletics, and Eastern Illinois University in a professional manner. Appearance is reflected in your physical attributes and mental attitude during the audition process. It takes a combination of positive attitude, dance
ability, time management, commitment, enjoyment for athletic events, ability to work in a team, showmanship, fitness, and appearance to
become an EIU Pink Panther dance team member. You must also have the overall dance ability and style to perform collegiate jazz, modern/lyrical, hip-hop, pom, and kick routines.
Please be prepared to properly execute the following technical elements on left and right which includes but not limited to:
Leaps - regular, switch, calypso, chainés center/turning disc
Turns- double and triple pirouette, fouetté, turns in second, axel, tour, chainés, piqué
Jumps-toe, C; Splits, Kicks
You should be familiar with common ballet terms and movements (i.e.: pas de chat, penché, attitude, chassé, développé, relevé, plié, passé)
. Showmanship is the result
of your attitude and the energy that you put into your dancing. Appearance
is a result of being physically fit and well groomed.

Necessary forms are:
1. Liability
Release --- download, print, complete, sign, and bring to audition registration
2. 2012-2013 Medical Information Form --- Complete and SUBMIT form online; Bring to audition registration a copy of the front and back of your Medical Insurance Card
3. Grade Consent --- download, print, complete, sign, and bring to audition registration
4. 2012-2013 EIU Pink Panther Application Form --- Complete form and SUBMIT online; Bring to audition registration a full body current photo of you in booty shorts w/tights and leotard
5. Health History Update --- EIU students needing a physical will download, print, and bring form to Health Service to get filled out during the appointment you arrange; NON-EIU students - bring current/updated sports physical to audition registration.
6. Proof of GPA - unofficial transcript indicating current cumulative GPA
First Cuts will be that morning with a list posted before noon. Call back auditions will begin immediately with evaluation and interviews late afternoon/early evening with a list posted that evening. A quick mandatory meeting that evening for everyone to meet new members and get details will be at approximately 5pm.
First Cut:
--- Appearance, attitude, physical fitness
--- Technique qualifications identified above
--- Turn sequence: MINIMUM of a double pirouette into five (5) turns in second and/or fouettes or a combination of two that add up to a minimum of 5 complete turns - arms and finish are your choice
--- Original choreography to either of these songs: #1-, #2-, #3-, & #4-
--- Skill/Talent that showcases your best dance ability - you may not repeat an evaluation element, but rather --- display a different element or different execution of a required element (i.e.: hip hop stall, more difficult turn sequence, different flexibility skill, gymnastic stunt, series of connected jumps, etc.)
Second Cut:
--- Appearance, attitude, physical fitness

I can't stress enough that you need to look game/performance ready for each part of the evaluation and the audition process - makeup and hair must be stage/performance ready and done to project your best appearance and showmanship. You need to look energetic, all American, and present a collegiate dancer who would be a solid EIU ambassador. Please wear required dance attire as indentified.
Required Attire: dance shoes; booty shorts, beige/nude tights, and leotard with appropriate undergarments for support/coverage OR full length sports/fitness support top-Absolutely no tank tops; Failure to do so will limit your opportunity of being selected for the team. Hair: out of face, neat, controlled, professional; NO JEWELRY ANYWHERE - this includes ALL PIERCINGS---if you leave in a piercing you will be asked to leave auditions---NO EXCEPTIONS; MAKE-UP: game day ready which includes eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow, blush, and lip color.
Auditions are closed to the public.
Collegiate dance is very demanding and rewarding. |
