Dr. Baharlou has been involved in academic administration in private and public universities for over 38 years with 25 years at Eastern as the Chair of Geology/Geography Department. He believes that encouraging and facilitating the scholarly activities of faculty and students involved in two comprehensive degree programs, Geology and Geography, and two teacher certification degrees in Sciences and Social Sciences, has been a challenging and rewarding experience. Dr. Baharlou appreciated the opportunity to teach and engage in scholarly activities at the same time meeting the administrative responsibilities of the department’s several degree programs with an emphasis in Field and Internship Experiences and Student/Faculty Collaborative Research.

Dr. Alan Baharlou directed the Phillips University Archeological Excavation Program in Israel and the Phillips University Program in Sweden and traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East.  In the last thirty years, he has been involved teaching courses for the Eastern Illinois University School of Adult and Continuing Education. He served two years as the Vice President of Eastern Illinois University Annuitants Association, followed by two years as the President. Currently, Dr. Baharlou is the EIU Annuitants Association Newsletter Editor and Legislative Chair.
