Paper One Assessment of Movie Accuracy Points: 25 Due: Tuesday, February 14, at the beginning of class. Pick a movie that you are familiar with and that you can easily access (rent, buy, whatever) for this assignment. The movie must be one that purports to represent some sort of reality (scientific, historical, etc.) that you can verify with research. Your paper will consist of an assessment of the movie's accuracy. Example: "Assessing Historical Accuracy in Braveheart." However, I hasten to add that this admittedly good topic is one that I won't approve, simply because I'm sick of reading papers on the topic. The other papers I won't allow are the ones on Titanic, Pearl Harbor, and Pocahontas. Format: The paper must be typed and printed, and double-spaced. It must be 2,500 words long or more. It must include both in-text citations and a source list (which does not count for your word count), thoroughly and responsibly documenting your research--though the style of the documentation is up to you (APA, MLA, or another style commonly accepted for collegiate work). However, I require you include page numbers in your in-text citations, regardless of whether the style you're using requires you do so. Internet sources may not be used in this paper. Other Requirements: Turn in printed copies of all the materials you used to write your paper; highlight the passages you used. Since you will be turning in so much material, please organize it carefully so that it's easy for me to grade your paper and to refer to your sources. I should be able to find anything you have cited in your paper with ease. Grading: Papers must meet the assignment before I will grade them. While grading, I will follow the standards suggested by Eastern's English Department. I will use the "Process" category to gauge your performance in meeting various deadlines and assignments related to each paper (work that will be done through e-mail). A grade of C, D, or F in any individual category will conquer the grade for the paper. See the syllabus for more information about grading. |
