State of Illinois
Coles County

The testimony of Levi P. Tomlin made before Samuel Wright, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the County of Coles and State of Illinois. Who being duly sworn on his oath says that, he believes from all that he could see and hear on Monday the 26th of March 1864 that those who was concerned in the riot on that day, that the malice was all against the soldiers from some cause that had spite at them. I did not see any one shoot, although I was in my office when it principally all took place. Two soldiers was shot at the door of my office.
