Robert Smith, aged 54 years residing in Charleston, Ills. on oath says that I was in Charleston on the 28th of March 1864, being the day of the Copperhead raid. I saw Bryant Thornhill with J.H. OHair & others take a soldier named Levi Freizner prisoner about two blocks east of the public square on the street leading east of the south side of said public square.
Thornhill had a revolver in his hand at the time.
