Many groups such as state agencies, park districts, municipalities, golf courses, schools and individuals are realizing the many benefits of landscaping with native plants. Even the federal government is promoting natural landscaping with native plants around the Vice President’s mansion. The state of Illinois has used native plants to landscape along major roadways and at rest stops for many years. Recently some of the traditional gardens around the state Capitol building in Springfield were replaced with native plants.
