Objectives of Chapter 7

 

This chapter introduces the basic techniques to build basic relational database schema objects, including tables, views, sequences, synonyms and indexes. This is an important chapter for you to be able to develop your own database. The chapter also introduces data dictionary and its views, which is used extensively for database management. The following lists some important learning objectives for this chapter.

 

      1. Understand the concept of database schema, its relation to database user.
      2. Understand database tables: columns and datatypes.
      3. Know how to create and modify database tables.
      4. Understand the concept and application of constraints.
      5. Know how to create and modify constraints.
      6. Understand the concept of views and know how to create views.
      7. Know how to create and use sequence.
      8. Know how to create and use synonyms.
      9. Understand why indexes are needed, and types of indexes.
      10. Know how to use database indexes.
