At
Eastern there are three program options that lead to a degree in Engineering.
I. Most of our students follow the 2-2 plan, whereby a student stays
at Eastern 2 years before transferring to an engineering school (UIUC,
SIUC, UM Rolla, NIU, or others) for their junior year. They are then
generally able to complete the requirements for an engineering degree
in 2 more years.
II. A small fraction of our students opt to follow the 3-2 (dual degree)
program, whereby a student spends 3 years on our campus at Eastern,
then either 2 years at UIUC or 2 years at SIUC. Upon completing this
five-year program, the student is awarded a B.S. in Engineering
degree from Eastern and an engineering degree in a specific discipline
from either UIUC or SIUC. There are two benefits to the 5-year program:
1. Students obtain a broader background in the liberal arts, which is
attractive to some employers, and
2. Students may spread their technical courses at EIU over 3 years.
III.
A new option, also a 3-2 (dual degree) program, allows students to obtain
a Physics degree from Eastern, B.S. in Engineering Physics, and an Engineering
degree from UIUC. A major advantage of this degree option is that it
allows students to develop a strong background in science to supplement
their background in Engineering.
